The Lakota East Girls Golf team recently concluded one of its finest seasons in recent years, tying for sixth place at the OHSAA Division I State Championships at NCR Country Club.
The Thunderhawks' state tournament appearance was their first since 2019 and capped an outstanding postseason run that included a Greater Miami Conference Championship and runner-up finishes at both the sectional and district tournaments.
East captured its third GMC championship in program history September 8-9 at Walden Ponds Golf Course, ending Sycamore's four-year run atop the conference standings.
Junior Jenna Schmidt enjoyed an exceptional season, winning GMC Golfer of the Year honors after shooting a two-day total of 145 to claim conference medalist honors.
Schmidt continued her outstanding play at the sectional tournament, firing a 70 to earn individual medalist honors, while teammate Sydney Phan added a 75 to finish fourth overall.
At the district tournament, Schmidt shot a 1-over-par 72 to finish second individually and help East advance to the state championships with a runner-up team finish.
The Thunderhawks' sixth-place tie at state provided a fitting conclusion to a memorable championship season.
Congratulations to the entire Lakota East Girls Golf program on an outstanding 2026 campaign!
