The Lakota East Girls Soccer team is headed to the OHSAA Regional Tournament after capturing a thrilling 2-1 victory over district rival Lakota West in Thursday evening's Southwest District Championship at Mason High School!

The victory gives the Thunderhawks their first district championship in 22 years and just the second in school history, with the program's previous district crown coming in 2004.

And what a way to accomplish it!

Entering the postseason as the No. 11 seed, East continued its impressive tournament run by knocking off the No. 4-seeded Firebirds, avenging a 2-0 regular-season defeat to West on September 29.

The Thunderhawks wasted little time establishing themselves Thursday evening, striking for two first-half goals to build a commanding 2-0 advantage against their district rivals.

Lakota West battled back with a goal to cut the deficit to 2-1, but the Thunderhawks refused to surrender their lead. East's defensive determination and composure helped preserve the historic victory, setting off a well-deserved district championship celebration.

The victory was especially meaningful considering the Thunderhawks' journey through the 2026 season. East has continued to improve throughout the fall, finding its rhythm at just the right time and demonstrating the confidence and resilience necessary to succeed in postseason competition.

The Thunderhawks closed the regular season with consecutive victories over Colerain (4-0) and Little Miami (4-1), then carried that momentum into tournament play.

East opened its postseason with an impressive 3-1 road victory over Beavercreek on Monday, October 26, setting the stage for Thursday's district championship showdown with Lakota West.

Now, the Thunderhawks find themselves among the remaining Division I regional contenders, with an opportunity to extend one of the most memorable seasons in program history.

NEXT UP: Lakota East (11-6-2) advances to the OHSAA Regional Semifinals on Tuesday, November 3, against undefeated Seton (19-0) at Mariemont High School. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.

The Thunderhawks will look to continue their remarkable postseason journey against one of Ohio's top teams, with a trip to the Regional Championship on the line.
