Make it TWO Lakota East golf teams headed to STATE!
The 2026 GMC Champion East Girls Golf team continued its outstanding postseason Tuesday, finishing second at the OHSAA District Championships at Heatherwoode Golf Club on Tuesday and earning a trip to the State Championships.
East posted a 329 team score, finishing just six strokes behind district champion Sycamore and nine shots ahead of third-place Anderson. The top three teams advanced.
Junior standout Jenna Schmidt once again led the Thunderhawks, firing a tremendous 1-over-par 72 to finish second individually, just one stroke behind medalist Savanna Blackmore of Sycamore.
Tyler Loving added an 85, while Sydney Phan and Kenzi Blankenship each shot 86. Emily Gruber added a 91.
For head coach Brady Webb and his Hawks, the accomplishment is particularly rewarding after East narrowly missed advancing in a playoff last season.
Now they're going to STATE!
This marks the fourth State Tournament appearance in Lakota East Girls Golf history and continues a championship season that has already included the GMC team title, Schmidt's GMC individual championship and Player of the Year honor, and her OHSAA Sectional medalist performance.
NEXT UP: East competes at the OHSAA State Championships, Oct. 12–13 on NCR Country Club's North Course.
