SOFTBALL EARLY SEASON UPDATES

Both Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks and Princeton Varsity Vikings had their offenses going in their season-opener on Tuesday, 3/28, but Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks eventually prevailed 16-6.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks secured the victory thanks to nine runs in the third inning.  The offensive onslaught came from triples by Amber Munoz and Tessa Koziel, singles by Halina Schulte and Ella Bauman, a home run by Hailey Hensley,  by Kaitlyn Haiber, and an error on a ball put in play by Schulte.

In the first inning, Princeton Varsity Vikings got their offense started.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks took the lead for good with nine runs in the third inning.  In the third Schulte singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run, Munoz tripled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run, Koziel tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring one run, Bauman singled on a 0-2 count, scoring one run, an error scored one run for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks, and Hensley homered on a 0-2 count, scoring two runs.

Haiber took the win for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks. The ace lasted four innings, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out four.  Lilly Sepelak threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Lanise Pates took the loss for Princeton Varsity Vikings. The pitcher surrendered three runs on two hits over one inning, striking out one.

Amanda Tulloss started the game for Princeton Varsity Vikings. The hurler surrendered 13 runs on nine hits over three innings, striking out five

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks smacked one home run on the day. Hensley had a four-bagger in the third inning.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks totaled 11 hits.  Munoz, Bauman, and Koziel all managed multiple hits for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks.  Koziel, Bauman, and Munoz each collected two hits to lead Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-5 victory over Colerain Cardinals on Wednesday, 3/29.  Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks was down 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning when Tessa Koziel homered on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks earned the victory despite allowing Colerain Cardinals to score four runs in the first inning.  Natali McGuire and Lydia Sparks each drove in runs during the inning.

Colerain Cardinals fired up the offense in the first inning, when McGuire homered on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks put up three runs in the third inning.  The rally was led by an error on a ball put in play by Ella Bauman and a double by Halina Schulte.

Kaitlyn Haiber got the win for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing five runs on ten hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

Olivia Schaffer started the game for Colerain Cardinals. The hurler lasted seven innings, allowing eight hits and six runs while striking out seven.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks socked one home run on the day. Koziel had a homer in the fifth inning.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks collected eight hits.  Koziel and Schulte all managed multiple hits for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks.  Koziel led Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks with three hits in three at bats.

East fell at Simon Kenton HS (KY) on Saturday, 4/1 by a score of 16-4. No other details were available.

Scorekeepers were kept busy on Monday, April 3rd during a high-scoring contest between Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks and Middletown where Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks prevailed 17-6.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks got things moving in the first inning, when Halina Schulte doubled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks scored seven runs in the fourth inning.  Tessa Koziel, Jayden Armbruster, Ella Bauman, Schulte, and Kaitlyn Haiber each drove in runs during the inning.

Haiber took the win for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks. The fireballer went four innings, allowing four runs on seven hits, striking out three and walking one.  Lilly Sepelak threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

C Vanholle started the game for Middletown. The pitcher went three innings, allowing nine runs on eight hits, striking out one, and walking one.  C Cantwell and L Powers entered the game from the bullpen, throwing one inning and one inning respectively.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks hit two home runs on the day. Koziel had a homer in the fourth inning. Destiny Zimmer put one out in the fifth inning.

Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks collected 14 hits on the day.  Armbruster, Haiber, Schulte, and Zimmer each collected multiple hits for Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks.  Armbruster led Lakota East Varsity Thunderhawks with three hits in four at-bats.

East Softball (3-1,3-0) will host Sycamore on Wednesday, 4/5.
