SOFTBALL CLAIMS 2026 GMC CHAMPIONSHIP

The Lakota East Thunderhawks are the 2026 Greater Miami Conference Softball Champions, securing the program’s fourth overall GMC title and first league championship since 2019. The Hawks go 16-1 in the GMC with their only loss coming at the hands of Oak Hills.

In his first season at the helm, head coach Steve Crawford guided the Thunderhawks to the conference crown as East powered past Hamilton, 15-6, to clinch the coveted championship.

The Thunderhawk offense erupted for 21 hits, with nine different players recording at least one hit in the victory. Maddie Offner, Kaleigh Crawford, Juju Sudnik, Abrie Schulte, and Addison Morath each collected three hits to lead the offensive explosion.

Lakota East delivered its biggest punch in the second inning when Haley Thompson, Sudnik, and Morath launched home runs within a four-batter stretch. All three players also added doubles in a dominant offensive performance.

Yorie Schulte, Abrie Schulte (2), and Crawford (2) also contributed doubles as the Thunderhawks piled up extra-base hits throughout the game.

In the circle, Kaleigh Crawford earned her 15th win of the season, allowing just two earned runs while striking out seven over seven innings of work.

The Thunderhawks improved to 21-5 overall and 16-1 in GMC play.

Lakota East closes out the regular season at home against Colerain TODAY, Tuesday, May 12, and enters postseason play as the #3 seed in the upcoming district tournament.
