Molly Deardorff Captures GMC Title and Breaks 25-Year Record!
The Lakota East Girls Cross Country team delivered an unforgettable performance at the 2025 GMC Championships, finishing as conference runner-up and turning in their best team finish since 2019.
The highlight of the day came from senior Molly Deardorff, who cemented her place among the all-time greats in East history. Deardorff captured the GMC individual title and Runner of the Year honors with a record-shattering performance of 17:21 for 5K — breaking a 25-year-old school record previously held by 2001 standout Lindsey Zinn (17:28). Zinn, a 2000 state champion, held the mark since her legendary career at East.
Deardorff’s historic run set the tone for a powerhouse team showing. Ava Dickenson charged to an 11-second personal best, clocking 18:17, which now ranks her as the fifth-fastest runner in program history. Freshman phenom Alyssa Browne also made her mark, finishing 6th overall in the conference with an 18:44, showcasing the program’s promising future.
Seniors Elise Brown and Brooks Billingsley both delivered massive season-best efforts to complete the scoring for the Thunderhawks, while Megan Hoffman and Ava Kidd also turned in strong performances that helped East secure the runner-up trophy in a fiercely competitive field.
For his leadership and the team’s outstanding performance, Head Coach Ben Reimer was named the GMC Girls Coach of the Year.
The Lakota East Cross Country program now turns its focus to the OHSAA Regional Championships on Saturday, October 25, in Troy, where the top five teams and top 20 individual runners will advance to the State Championships at Fortress Obetz on Saturday, November 1.
