The Lakota East Girls Basketball began their GMC schedule in a big way on Tuesday. The Hawks ended Mason's winning ways over East with a 55-50 victory in the Hawks' Nest. The Thunderhawk girls had last defeated Mason in the 2011-12 season (62-52). Before that win, East defeated Mason twice in the 2010-11 season (59-50, 42-36).

It was a complete sweep of all three levels of the Comets on Tuesday night (frosh, JV, varsity).

The Comets didn't have an answer for senior Madison French in the first half as she scored all of her 19 points in the first two quarters giving East a 24-21 advantage at the half.

Sarah Sewak stepped up in the second half going 4/5 from the three-point line, ending the game with 18 points. Savannah Smith and Payton Woody both hit crucial three-pointers in the fourth quarter to secure East's victory.

To say the least, it was a program win for the girls over the defending GMC champs. They'll have little time to celebrate though. East (2-2) will visit district rival Lakota West on Saturday.
