HAWKS FINISH REGULAR SEASON, TIED FOR 2ND GMC

East girls suffered only their 3rd loss of the season on Saturday at Mason. The final score was 58-46. Foul trouble in the contest minimized the Hawks' ability to stay with Mason in the fourth quarter, getting held to just 5 points over the last 7-plus minutes of play.

Junior guard Emma Fohl had 10 points for Lakota East and senior Madison French led the Thunderhawks with 13, connecting three times from the perimeter. French, who had 18 in the win over Mason in December, picked up her fourth foul with 2:15 left in the third quarter and had to sit for the majority of the second half.

East finishes the regular season at 19-3 overall (all-time program record) and 14-2 in the GMC (tied with Princeton-2nd place). The girls tie a record for the highest finish ever in the league. In the 2010-11 season, East and Sycamore tied for 2nd in the GMC with identical 10-4 records.

A third edition of this GMC rivalry is very possible. Mason is a No. 3 seed in its district bracket and Lakota East is a No. 2 seed. Down the road, the two powerhouses could see each other in the regional championship with a spot in the Division I state Final Four on the line.

Next up, East opens Sectional play on Wednesday, Feb. 15th vs. either Edgewood or Mt. Healthy, at 6:00 pm at Harrison HS. The winner gains a berth in the Sectional Final on Monday, Feb. 20th.
