FALLS TO PRINCETON

Lakota East fell to Princeton 67-41 on Wed. 2/11, struggling to find consistent offense while committing 21 turnovers in the loss. Bella Sturgill and Isadore McCune led the way with 12 points apiece.

Sturgill knocked down three field goals and went 5-of-7 from the free-throw line while adding a block, and McCune was efficient from the floor, shooting 5-of-8 overall and 2-of-3 from three-point range. Bailey Bacher added seven points, four rebounds, and three steals to round out Lakota East’s top performers, but Princeton’s pressure and balanced scoring proved too much to overcome.

Lakota East celebrated Senior Day last Saturday in unforgettable fashion, edging Colerain 55-52 in a thriller that ended with senior Hannah Weaver knocking down a buzzer-beating three-pointer to send the home crowd into a frenzy.

The Thunderhawks leaned on a dominant performance from Bella Sturgill, who led all scorers with 24 points on an efficient 11-of-14 shooting while adding nine rebounds to control the paint. Isadore McCune provided a huge lift with eight points, including clutch free throws down the stretch, and Bailey Bacher filled up the stat sheet with seven points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals to help steady the offense.

With the game tied in the closing seconds, it was Weaver’s lone three-pointer of the night that mattered most, sealing the emotional Senior Day victory and capping a total team effort for East.

Next up for East is the postseason Sectional. The Hawks are the #10 seed and will play Walnut Hills (5 seed) at Fairfield 7:30 PM on Monday, 2/23.

The winner advances to the District Final on Feb. 28th vs. either Princeton or Middletown.
