East Boys VB Clinches 10th GMC Title, Completes Perfect League Season

Liberty Township, Ohio...The Lakota East Boys Volleyball team made history Tuesday night, sweeping the Sycamore Aviators in straight sets to capture the 2025 Greater Miami Conference (GMC) championship. The win capped off a perfect 8-0 league record and marked the program’s 10th GMC title—the most of any team since boys volleyball became a GMC sport in 2002.

The Thunderhawks' championship titles span the years: 2003, 2006, 2007, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2024, and now 2025, reinforcing their legacy as a dominant force in the conference.

In their final regular season match, senior right-side hitter Grant Simer led the offensive charge with 14 kills and 3 service aces. Simer also etched his name into the record books by setting a new GMC single-season kills record during the match.

Defensively, senior specialist Will Huelskamp anchored the backcourt with a 2.33 serve-receive average and 5 digs, helping the Thunderhawks maintain control throughout the night.

The Thunderhawks conclude the regular season with a stellar 20-2 overall record and now shift focus to the postseason. Lakota East will host cross-town rival Lakota West in the first round of tournament play on Wednesday, May 14, at 6:00 PM at The Hawks Nest.
