The Lakota East Cross Country team made the most of a flat, competitive course at Hilliard Davidson’s Hot Summer Bash this Saturday morning and delivered impressive performances across the board.

The boys 9/10 open saw personal best times from nearly the whole lineup. The team was led by freshman Ben Karam and sophomore Colin Poe. They worked together to finish two seconds apart and both dropped a full minute off their personal record times. They were followed by freshmen Leo Sabatini and Micah Charles and sophomore Aaron Matlack who also all ran personal best times. Like Karam and Poe, sophomores Ben Corcoran and Quin Horgan exemplified the power of teamwork as they crossed the finish line only one second apart and both set personal records.

True to the competitive nature of the course, the girls open race showcased many personal best times as well. Sophomore Isabel Grissom set the tone as the leader of the pack and dropped over a minute on her personal record. She was followed closely by sophomores Avery Swann-Rodriguez and Lucy Ostermyer who both shaved considerable amounts of time off their personal best times too.

Senior Reilly Meyer led the way in the boys varsity race with a 23rd place finish. Sophomore Jacob Turner finished next for the Hawks with a new season best time that ties his lifetime best time. Senior Kris Varbanov and freshmen Dan Kim and Andrew Grissom all ran determined races and set lifetime best times.
