As redemption for last year’s mud run, the Lakota East Cross Country team ran a fast course in ideal conditions at Centerville’s Saturday Night Lights Meet.
All runners showcased strong races, with many of them starting their seasons on high notes.
The boys open saw many PRs as a handful of runners experienced their first 5k race. Senior Kris Varbanov led the charge with a 12th place finish, followed closely by sophomore Peter Graham and freshman Andrew Grissom.
Like the girls, the boys championship race was another first-class display of grit. Every athlete ran faster than their last week’s pre-season invitational. Senior Reilly Meyer led the pack with a 19th place finish. Freshman Dan Kim and junior Lucas Maritato both ran stellar PRs while junior Silas Wood ran a great season’s best, all three of them dropping their times by substantial amounts.
The team is back in action next Saturday morning at Hilliard Davidson High School for the Hilliard Hot Summer Bash.
