The 2024 Lakota East Track and Field team returns eager to compete this outdoor season. The men and women return with key sprinters, distance runners, and field event specialists ready to mix it up for your Thunderhawks.
The sprints & hurdle group are coached by Head Coach Rodney Heath, Kim Heath, Michael Dwyer, and Jimmy Turner. We added some wonderful coaching additions to our staff starting with Colbly Webb, Trinton Brown and JJ Hayes. They will help with the sprints group,
Men's Sprints:
Junior Greg James returns to compete for another GMC title and looks to be one of the top 400-meter sprinters in the state this season. We are a young group of upcoming juniors and sophomores like Taariq Smith and Mo Gueye in the hurdles crew. Senior Myles Boolton is back to make his presence felt in the 110 hurdles at GMC championship. We are excited about the outcome for this men's group.
Women's Sprints:
Juniors Lena James, Ivy Smith, and Heaven Wills are state-qualifying returners for the sprints. Junior Katlyn Pham and Sophmore Mikaylah Chandler leads Coach Kim, hurdles crew. Both young ladies qualified for state last season. Pham finished 4th in the state in the 300 hurdles. They both are key returners for sprints and relays that helped the Thunderhawks ladies' relays finish top 3 in the 4x100 and 4x200 in Columbus. Other key returners are Junior Haylie Yeazell, Sophmore Qierstin McClain, and Senior Hailey Still.
Coaching our throws group will be Corbin Smith. Former Lakota East grad, Gracie Clutie will help Coach Smith as they have a young group ready to take the next step. Leading that group will be Jackson Kusmer. He is projected to be one of the top discus throwers in the GMC this season as a Junior. Additionally, we're going to have some really good and tough competition within our ranks this season. We will continue to develop this group and look forward to a bright future.
Coaching our distance group will be Ben Reimer and Lee Sellers.
Boys Distance:
The boys distance track team features one of the deepest rosters in recent years. Sophomore Reilly Meyer and Junior Blake Gibbs lead the charge and hope to make a push for the State meet in June. Juniors Evan Aponte, Matthew Slone, Steven Troutman, and Sophomore Elijah Grissom look to be major contributors on a very talented distance group.
Girls Distance:
The girls distance track team is filled with talent. The squad is anchored by seniors Meredith Brown and Brooke Wilson the squad, both of whom are coming off of strong winter seasons. After breakthrough cross-country seasons, sophomores Molly Deardorff, Ava Dickenson, and Elise Brown look to carry their momentum into a dominant track season.
